I remember it, and it’s not like the world was safe when I was a little un. I got the stranger danger speech a thousand times at school. but I still spent hours ‘playing’. I got lost more times than you can count; swept out to sea once (we all swam back); climbed fences to see what was on the other side; skinned my knees and ran home crying; skinned my elbows; made cubbies in the trees; skinned my hands on asphalt; got scratched by cats and possums; lost one bike in the callala bay mudflats; and - memorably - was bitten on the face by a crab.

if kids don’t do that now … what do they do?
